The Tax Collector’s office is a Division of the Finance Department.
The Tax Collector is responsible for the billing, collection, reporting and enforcement of municipal taxes for the Township of Little Falls. The Tax Collector also collects the county, district schools, regional high school and library taxes for Little Falls. Sewer is included in the property taxes and water is a private company known as New Jersey American Water Co. @ 1-800-652-6987.
Property taxes are due on February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1. The Township does grant a 10-day grace period. If the 10th falls on a weekend or legal holiday, you have until the next business day to make payment. Please note that the State of NJ does not permit postmarks. All payments may be made by personal check, cashier’s check; money orders or ACH e-checks online (see below). Bank checks for lien redemptions are required. For those making payments online through their banks, please allow 7-10 days for this process so that we receive the payments before the grace period ends. As per Township Ordinance, interest is calculated @ 8% on the first $1,500.00 delinquent amount; 18% exceeding $1,500.00 until the account is current. A 6% year-end penalty is subject on any account that is delinquent in excess of $10,000.00 (including interest) as of December 31st.
As a statutory officer of the State of NJ, the Tax Collector is obligated to follow all of the State Statutes regarding property tax collection including billing, due dates, interest on delinquent tax payments and tax sale procedures.
Paying your tax obligations in a timely manner does help the Township save money.
